Uren said the Olympics, followed by the 2025 tournament, is a chance for women\u2019s rugby to show its quality to broader audiences. \u201cHopefully we can showcase how good our sport is, how talented our players are, and some amazing athletes as well,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd actually, people start watching it and think, do I want to watch this more? And they\u2019ll start following us, and we\u2019re just going to grow from there.\u201d<\/p><p>World Rugby is working to ensure the tournament is available on free-to-air television in the UK to support its growth, complementing the advocacy currently performed by players. The USA\u2019s Ilona Maher is using her vast social media reach to introduce the game to new audiences. It was no surprise when Taylor Swift\u2019s boyfriend\u2019s brother \u2013 former NFL player Jason Kelce \u2013 was in Paris supporting the US team. The profile of many of the players in the Australian women\u2019s sevens team is surpassing that of their male counterparts, both in sevens and traditional formats, especially after four dominant displays in this tournament. Rugby Australia has run a specialist, full-time sevens program since before the sport\u2019s 2016 debut in Rio, where the side won gold. But the women\u2019s 15s side, the Wallaroos, have struggled to compete with the world\u2019s best, and were humbled 41-5 in the quarter-finals of the 2021 World Cup by England.<\/p><p>Australia won the rights to host the 2029 Women\u2019s World Cup as well as the 2027 men\u2019s edition, and the country\u2019s rugby administrators are hoping to tap into the strength of the sevens to replicate the success of the women\u2019s football World Cup in Australia last year.<\/p><p>Waugh said Australia now wants the country\u2019s best athletes doubling up, with an eye on a memorable run at home in 2029. \u201cGoing deep in your own home World Cup is critically important,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s certainly our intent to integrate the sevens and the 15s to get our best athletes playing both formats.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rugby stadium in France &#8221;
