Vinesh Phogat disqualified in Paris Olympic 2024

Vinesh Phogat, poised on the brink of ultimate glory at the Paris Olympic Games 2024, faced a devastating setback just hours before the final. Vinesh, competing in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling category, was disqualified for being 100 grams over the weight limit. Normally a contender in the 53 kg category, she had meticulously reduced her weight to 50 kg for the Olympics. However, on Day 2 of her weigh-in, she was found to be just over the limit by a mere 100 grams. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has urgently appealed her disqualification, leaving her Olympic dreams hanging in the balance.

She discovered the previous night that her weight had increased by 1 kg and in a desperate bid to lose the extra weight, she endured a high intensity training of cycling and exercises without sleep and finally managed to lose 900 grams of weight according to sources.

Despite her efforts, Vinesh Phogat was still overweight by 100 g . Indian officials pleaded with the Olympic committee by the direction of prime minister narendra modi for more time, but sources indicate there was “very little elbow room for negotiation.” This unfortunate turn of events casts a shadow over her Olympic aspirations.
