Simone Biles Strikes Gold Again at Paris 2024 | Team USA Shines

Happy endings is never a walk in the park.

USA Superstar Women Simone Biles proved that in Gymnastics on 1st August by learning from her early error and bouncing off to claim her second Olympic all-around crown at Paris Olympics 2024.

Biles’ impressive 59.131 total earned her the gold, while Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade took home silver with a score of 57.932. American Suni Lee rounded out the podium with 56.465. Remarkably, all three have previously stood on the Olympic all-around podium, a first in history.

“This victory tonight means the world to me, and it’s just so surreal,” Biles shared afterward.

Biles first claimed this title eight years ago at Rio 2016. Lee and Andrade shone with gold and silver three years ago at Tokyo 2020. Back then, Biles might have anticipated another crowning moment but was instead compelled to step back during the women’s team final and four other finals to focus on her mental health, dealing with the ‘twisties’—a disorienting condition where gymnasts lose air awareness.

This sparked a global conversation about mental health in sports and pushed Biles to undertake the grueling physical and mental work to return to the top.

“I never thought I’d compete in gymnastics again after everything that happened,” Biles explained. “But with the support of my coaches, Cecile and Laurent Landi, I got back in the gym and worked incredibly hard, both mentally and physically. Even this morning at 7 a.m., I had a session with my therapist. The time change made it challenging, but she’s amazing for accommodating me during these days in Paris. It’s crucial for me to stay mentally strong, and I think you can see that reflected in my performance.”
